Where it all began

“Following the birth of my son Jonno, I quickly realised just how difficult the whole baby bathing process is. I very quickly gave up on the idea of a baby bath because the lifting once it was full and when it needed emptying gave me back problems and the daily palaver with finding somewhere with enough space to cover with towels to put it down was a headache in itself, not to mention the problems of storing the thing once I had finished with it each day. Water puddles on the carpet became a daily sight. I then resorted to using the family bath but this took forever to fill. We were on a water meter for the first time and the increase in the water bills after my sons birth was incredible.

I soon realised that not only was I wasting valuable time by waiting endlessly for the bath to fill, but I was wasting water because I actually only needed a small section of the bath for my little boy anyway. Once he could sit up in the bath this became even more obvious.

I looked around for a product to reduce the size of the bath but couldn’t find anything and that is when the idea of BabyDam was born. If I could create something that would effectively section off the bath to whatever size I wanted, then I would create a smaller, safer and more cosy environment for my baby at bathtime and I could gradually make that bigger as he grew until he eventually would be big enough to use the whole bath. I could therefore use my own bath and afterwards the BabyDam could be stored in the bathroom easily.

In short, with BabyDam, my water bills would go down so I would be saving money, I was saving time because the bath took less time to fill and my baby was getting used to the proper bath – it was a winner all round, and above all I would be preserving precious water ”
